If you need a mailing list for your group or organization, chances are that you want to collaborate. This requires two way communication. A mailing list of this type is called a “discussion list”. These lists allow many users to receive and send email to the mailing list without dealing with the large list of subscribers. The other type of mailing list is an “announcement list”. These lists are better suited for businesses and where list subscribers are only consumers of the information and not collaborators. Information on these types of lists can be located at our Announcement List category.

If both types of lists have features that are appealing to your organization a discussion list can usually be configured to act like an announcement list.
